The Importance of Voter Education

Eric Opiela Speaks on Voter EducationOur meeting this month was focused on voter education.

Our first speaker was Eric Opiela. Eric is currently a candidate for Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He is also a long-time Republican Party activist who has held many different positions including:

  • Executive Director and Associate Counsel for the Republican Party of Texas,
  • Chairman of Karnes County Republican Party, and
  • Member of the State Republican Executive Committee.

CTRA MembersOf course the CTRA cannot endorse in statewide races (when that is done it’s done by the Texas Republican Assemblies instead). Eric’s primary focus at the meeting was not on his campaign, though, but on the importance of education our friends and neighbors on the issues and ensuring that they are well informed when they vote.

After Eric’s presentation the group also heard from Ken Emanuelson of Grassroots Texans, also on voter identification and education. They have started to have some great experiences with it in Dallas county and it would be excellent if we could replicate and build on that success in Travis county.

It was fantastic seeing another strong turnout. There was lively discussion and we agreed to move forward with our plans.

If you were there – thank you! If you were not able to make it, we hope to see you at our next meeting!
